I have this thing about setting goals for myself. I try to define a path that I’m trying to take, and then figure out steps to get there. Then I have to execute on those steps, and finally review progress.
That seems like a normal and almost obvious plan. But each of those individual tasks can be insurmountable at times. Getting through even one of them feels like an accomplishment, and getting through all four in any reasonable time seems like sorcery.
Let’s address them in order. First: what is that path? What things do I even want? Some of them are fairly common, but some feel like they go against the grain of what goal setting should be. That makes it hard to find examples to work with, or to gauge how others have done.
Next, the steps. This is the hardest for me! Even harder than executing often. I may know that I want to get more clients for my business for instance, but how do I actually do that? All of the suggestions that I find are just that: suggestions. A path might work, but it might be a false start. So I get stuck on figuring out which tasks to actually plan out.
Let’s say that I have my plan together. Executing those tasks is the next step. For me this is often the most straightforward. Like sure it takes more labor to actually write code, contact clients, build things, etc. But at least I know what I need to do to get from Point A to Point B. This is where I tell myself that I want to have a project planner, but the project is my life.
Then there’s reviewing progress and changing course as needed. This is easier than steps one and two, but not always by much. Hopefully things are going well and I can continue forward, but often by this point I realize that I need to make changes.
So where does this leave us? At the very least I need to find better ways to manage my AuDHD life. To figure out my physical and mental health to let other things flow from there. To finally find some way to achieve inner peace (impossible challenge).
Or maybe I should start shopping around for that project planner for Project david
