So I’m gonna be well behind, but I watched Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show. It was gorgeous. I’ve watched it a half dozen times already. I do not understand everything that he’s saying, but i understand enough of the lyrics and visuals to recognize it as a true love letter to Puerto Rico, and a rallying cry to us all.
The US has owned Puerto Rico, stealing it from Spain with no chance of sovereignty nearly 130 years ago. While the British didn’t own it during the American Revolution, it’s doubtful that Puerto Rico would have fared any differently than other American colonies that didn’t benefit from that war.
Following the concert, I watched the short film for his last album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. As the title suggests, there is a bit of melancholy, a wish that more had been saved before it could be forgotten. But I also see the hope in this statement. A reminder that we should document our lives, because we never know what will be left of us.
I’m tired of hearing from idiots like Jake Paul who don’t seem to have any sense of irony around their idiotic statements while they continue to pillage the island for resources. I’m disgusted by the hatred toward anything Spanish, including all of the folks who forget that Puerto Rico is part of the US, or who don’t want anyone to feel safe living here. I am mad as hell that they plan on building more ICE facilities right here in Orlando instead of fucking abolishing that department already and spreading the money around to help people.
