Dangit, behind again on my kinda weekly schedule. This time I’m gonna blame a lot of headaches. Both literal and figurative.
Last week I had lingering headaches, throbbing in the sinus behind one of my eyes most of the time. I think that it was allergies, which were flaring up a bit. I kind of don’t function well at those points, and any attempts to look at my laptop make me shut down a bit.
One of the big figurative headaches was a plumbing issue that took a day and a half and more money than I wanted (but less than was originally quoted) to fix. I was trying to fix a leak in our shower, and in the process I broke an old stem pipe leading to it, which meant that I needed to keep water off to the house while it was fixed. Why do we not have shutoff valves on everything!
I was mainly frustrated at myself while trying to fix it. I was the only one to notice the leak in the shower, and had been wanting to fix it for weeks. I will hyperfixate on a problem until I do something about it, and this was one of them. But our house is never empty, so I had no good time to work on it while no one else was around to be affected by my incompetence.
I also was dealing with really old plumbing, and my inability to do a proper seal. I guess I feel kinda good that the person who we finally got to fix the job had trouble too, just so I know that it wasn’t me.
At the same time, it feels a lot worse to me when I mess something up that affects others. Especially something that was working “well enough”. I can’t say that it was at an, “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” situation, but it was not broke enough that I needed to fix it right then.
Anyway, I’m awake, I’m wrapping up tasks, and I’m hitting send on this newsletter. Much love to all of you, and take care of one another 🥰

Why do we allow ourselves such shame?
Following from one of the podcasts that I posted last week. I guess there are still more twists and turns to this story.
A good point being made here that the best ghost hunting equipment gives false positives on purpose. You don’t want a machine that does nothing, after all.
A long read, but a good one on the situation of the company Fandom, which runs a fan wiki hosting site. Don’t let someone else own your creative output.
I wish that our news days were so slow that, “look, we saw a Kiwi” is worthy of a writeup.
Wow, courts stopping far right politicians, what a thought.

I have recently begun enjoying this literature analysis channel. This is a good example, about a short story where everyone has to be the same, and how that doesn’t work well in practice.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and want to give up. That’s what building a community around yourself is for 🥰
Plus, it looks very good and celebrating bodies of all types is great.
I think that the retrofuturistic look of things like Severance is cool, but not how I’d like to do my computing.
What a great video idea: how to destroy a city from the perspective of a kaiju!

Even if you say that it doesn’t matter much since someone doesn’t get out, it’s not like they can’t access most everything on the internet and spread harmful and hateful conspiracies that way.
Ugh, why do scammers and grifters have to prey on the most vulnerable? Like, I get it, but what the fuck?
If you made it this far, why not share this newsletter with a friend? Or share with me some of the things that you found that you liked this week. Either way, I’m thrilled!
