A guide to the fediverse, along with other stuff to read

This is the Wolfpaw Weekly. Don’t remember signing up or don’t want this anymore? It’s easy to unsubscribe.
I’m doing a 366 Day Challenge, and am 1015 days in! You can follow along on my PixelFed account.
My Mastodon instance, tech.lgbt, is three years old today! For those not in the know, it’s a much nicer alternative to Twitter and other social media. I’ve blogged on misconceptions around it, as well as how to get started with it.
There’s a newish weekly event on Mastodon and the fediverse, #MastoMonday, which is to help showcase creators on the platform and to help everyone grow together.
This week for #MastoMonday I started a new project: fedi.guide, a website that will eventually be a community driven guide for getting people on board with federated and decentralized social media of all sorts. I’m really hopeful for something good to come of it!
My first goal is to make a guide goet creatives interested in joining the platform, and helping them to get found. I think that this could be useful to help get alternatives to walled garden social media more traction.
If you haven’t seen these going around, people have been doing paintovers of album covers with KK Slider, the musician dog from Animal Crossing. These are two of my favorite albums, HT to Lisa for the Dirty Computer one, and Keliff for sharing the Heroes cover.
As always, here’s a few of the things that I’ve read and watched this week that I’d recommend going into the weekend.
An author that I enjoy, Robin Sloan, has started making a video game. He has been documenting it via newsletter for the past few weeks, and this week he discussed fantasy map building. I agree that books with maps in the front are some of my favorite.
Just a reminder that we shouldn’t be expected to be fully productive right now. The world has changed, and was complete productivity even that great in the first place?
I’d chalk part of this game’s overwhelming success to quarantining, not just a strong series with an anticipated title on the console that could function both handheld and on the television. But speaking of productivity above, it makes sense that a game where you have control and some set tasks along with the ability to take as little or as long as you want on them or ignore them entirely with friendly animals is going to be a hit in any economy.
Well, it’s been just over a century soo….
The Nib has great comics. You should check out some of the others while you’re there!
Great show, great game, love the concept.
If you don’t know, david Bowie is one of my favorite artists. And Heroes is probably my favorite Bowie song for how versatile it is. Pub Choir does lots of good covers, and they’ve been keeping it going even in quarantine.
Bojack Horseman is one of my favorite shows, and I watched some of The Good Place with Tim. You think I’d watch the whole show, what with the focus on philosophy of ethics.
Everything that this record label puts out is so relaxing and well… chill
That’s it for this week. Everyone stay safe and healthy out there 💝
