A slow week. A lot of thoughts. Mainly just thinking on what I’m doing for the future. I’ve been trying to regard my thoughts around the kind of white-collar work that I have done most of my career as a web developer. I haven’t been great at finding new clients, and it’s really been showing over the past year.
I’m also trying to think through some moderation thoughts for tooling for Mastodon. I keep thinking it’s not very useful for me to work on it, since I am not a Ruby on Rails developer, nor do I want to get into the politics of large open source project dev. Or the politics of Leftist infighting on the fediverse, for that matter.
The big issue right now is having thoughts, but not writing them down. Which for me is the first step in acting on them. If I keep going, I just think and think and think, and get analysis paralysis. Not ideal when you are in charge of your own income, and have plenty of mental health hurdles to jump!
This week is gonna have a few meetings, and I’ll be better at taking notes. I’ll also work on putting some notes in public, since I want to get some public feedback. Join me in starting the week well!

The New York Times is no friend to Trans people.
The interesting bit for me here isn’t building a Facebook Group, but the reminder that proactive moderation is needed if you want to build a healthy space. Even in WordPress site building.
Not just how, but why. Because it’s not just a point of, “this is bad”, but more that, “the industry around it is what makes it bad”.
Relating to the intro to the newsletter, what exactly is our job going to be in the future?

I was not expecting a six and a half hour documentary from a documentarian that I know for VR chat. Nor for it to be such a deep dive into the dysfunction and pain over the past two decades at Fort Hood, Texas.
There’s more to disability than just trying to “fix” it. Deaf Culture is a thing, and stigma is a thing.
I get what Keith is saying. But I also get tired of some furries who do clickbait based on titillation. Or do the thing (repeatedly, not just one time) where they are very obviously doing sexual innuendo, but then follow up with, “oh no, I didn’t mean like that chat, I’m a good boy”.
t’s challenging to discuss purity testing when social media is made for winning and losing, not nuance.
“remember the Left is always looking for traitors, but the Right is always looking for converts”
I can’t imagine how this would make me feel in real life. Beyond the confusion of what will happen in the future (or past I suppose), but how you can even survive and make plans for your life.

Because shitty people think that they are right to control the lives of others in ways that lead to pain and death.
Beyond being unable to keep a secret if he knows it, he’s flooded the zone with shit of so many conspiracy theories.
We’ll always find things to convince us that reality isn’t real.
And ruining the lives of the people being investigated. Sometimes for good, but overwhelmingly not.
If you made it this far, why not share this newsletter with a friend? Or share with me some of the things that you found that you liked this week. Either way, I’m thrilled!
