She shared a new tool that she’s working on, Polifree, which is an RSS feed based news site that is meant to display news from various sources, while removing the overtly US politics based articles.
I like this! I think that we should all be doing more to shape our own spaces online. I’ve got a project on the backburner (of many, as you may well know), that is a personal RSS feed reader that does the useful parts of some popular readers, but without the m any things that I do not need or want involved. And frankly, if I get this done before my annual membership to my latest reader app expires, I’ll probably cancel that and save money, even if I’m hosting on my Digital Ocean droplet.
Taking control of your online selves is hard. Sometimes impossible! In the latest There Are No Girls on the Internet episode, and a companion article, Bridget Todd talks about how the hardest day of her life, the death of her mother while her father was already hospitalized, was grossly tainted even further by an AI-generated obituary site writing a fake and bland obituary for her amazing mother, just to collect a bit of ad revenue and scamming visitors with fake flower delivery and tree planting memorials.
What can you do to take care of yourselves online? What things have you been trying lately to have more ownership of your digital selves?

Stories that have a general unease to them, where you think that they’ll go one way, then go another and just leave it unexplained have a specific way that they itch my horror brain.
